01:26 < tsa> esden: niemals uid=0 an muddi geben.. ;)

01:28 < esden> grrr
01:29 < huebi> esden: Frage mal zvpunry in #reallife.
01:30 < huebi> th: OK fully ACK! THank you greate, klasse super
01:30 < th> und den power knopf aus metal
01:30 < th> huebi: schau dir scripts/Update-new an
01:30 < th> huebi: es funktioniert im prinzip schon
01:30 < th> huebi: zumindest erstmal fuer ext
01:34 < huebi> th: Ich werde morgen vormittag dazu kommen.

01:43 * fake is krank
01:45 < fake> dhcp im lokalen netz verarscht ;-)
01:46 < huebi> fake: Was tust du ? ;-)
01:48 < fake> *freu
01:49 < huebi> fake: nette Loesung ;)

08:08 < odd_amrimp> simon, you know anything about 1.7?
08:19 < SMP> odd_amrimp: what do you want to know?
08:19 < odd_amrimp> Well, I was just having issues pulling it down,
08:19 < odd_amrimp> but turned out to be my version of curl was too old
08:20 < odd_amrimp> I'm just taking a peek at it now, since you guys have already done some legwork on MIPS support,
08:20 < odd_amrimp> I haven't built a distro for mips in a bit over a year, so I'm seeing if "there's a better way"
08:20 < odd_amrimp> (Linuxfromscratch way is the norm for me)
08:22 < odd_amrimp> Quickie- why do most people and for what purpose do most use Rock Linux?
08:22 < SMP> I started working on a MIPS port like two years ago
08:22 < SMP> mipseb on SGI Indigo2 to be precise
08:22 < odd_amrimp> hmm, big endian, fun
08:23 < odd_amrimp> I've only worked on LE projects to this point
08:23 < SMP> kernel and glibc support for that was a real mess back then
08:23 < odd_amrimp> Yea, that's how I'm remembering it too
08:23 < odd_amrimp> I actually had to fix a bug in gcc at the time...,
08:23 < odd_amrimp> which if you can't depend on your compiler,
08:23 < odd_amrimp> you can't depend on..., well, shit basically
08:23 < SMP> it used to be better back in 2.0 / libc5 days actually
08:24 < SMP> RedHat even released 5.2 for mipseb
08:24 < odd_amrimp> hmm, yea, we were using a wickedly hacked up 2.0 series glibc
08:24 < SMP> anyway. things have gotten a lot better now
08:24 < odd_amrimp> So I hear..., newer glibcs working well?, compiler?
08:25 < SMP> I'm not doing anything on mips anymore, but I hear esden and fake a doing a very good job
08:25 < odd_amrimp> Cool beans
08:25 < odd_amrimp> what are they using for test platforms?
08:25 < odd_amrimp> (CPU basically)
08:25 < SMP> SGI machines
08:25 < SMP> R4k4, R5k
08:25 < odd_amrimp> Hmm..., right right
08:26 < odd_amrimp> Well, I work for Toshiba, we make r4k and a few other types of mips processors...
08:26 < odd_amrimp> (we made the PS2s' processor actually, kind of a funky one)
08:26 < odd_amrimp> Do you think they'd want to mess about with some other boards?
08:27 < SMP> I bet they do
08:27 < odd_amrimp> heh :)
08:28 < SMP> AFAIK there's no mipsel hardware 'round
08:28 < odd_amrimp> Yea
08:28 < odd_amrimp> Well,
08:28 < odd_amrimp> hehe
08:28 < SMP> but mipsel is easy anyway ;)
08:28 < odd_amrimp> You could buy a Agenda Computing one :)
08:28 < odd_amrimp> They're defunct now...
08:28 < odd_amrimp> but that was my baby..., have you heard of it?
08:28 < SMP> VR3 or the like`
08:29 < odd_amrimp> Yes, VR3, I ran the dev department there for a while
08:29 < odd_amrimp> We had zippo for resources though..., was starting to shape up
08:29 < odd_amrimp> Anyway, that's how those things go.
08:30 < odd_amrimp> (Had a NEC VR4181 processor in it, no FPU, but did have 64bit registers)
08:31 < odd_amrimp> Can you give me a pointer to those two fellows email addys?
08:32 < odd_amrimp> Ah, I guess they'll just float up on the list in a fe days
08:32 < odd_amrimp> Anyway, ttyl, I'm dling now, give it a run on our processors later,
08:33 < odd_amrimp> the cool thing about ROCK for me specifically is that the source based nature makes
08:33 < odd_amrimp> it easy to optimize it for the various architectures within mips that T has
08:33 < SMP> be sure to also lurk on the rock-ports list
08:33 < odd_amrimp> thanks for the info.
08:33 < odd_amrimp> ok-will do
08:33 < SMP> you can also catch them here in a few hours
08:34 < odd_amrimp> Oh, is the MIPS work at this point a "supported" project?
08:34 < odd_amrimp> Or just fun?
08:34 < SMP> no part of ROCK ist "supported" ;>
08:34 < SMP> what do you mean by this? ;)
08:35 < odd_amrimp> hehe, well,
08:35 < odd_amrimp> "officially" no
08:35 < SMP> yeah, it "officially doesn't work and we don't know if it ever will" ;>
08:35 < odd_amrimp> Anyway, as was noted in the PS2 thread,
08:36 < odd_amrimp> individuals get support for certain things at times in ROCK sounds like,
08:36 < odd_amrimp> and that's similar with pretty much all OSS projects
08:36 < SMP> ah, well
08:36 < SMP> a new arch port is always welcome ;-)
08:37 < SMP> it's just like the kernel works
08:37 < odd_amrimp> Sure
08:37 < SMP> if you do a good job and make your code play well
08:39 < odd_amrimp> ok, time to sleep out here in the US, I'll be lurking the lists, and
08:39 < odd_amrimp> posting if I have something half-way intelligent to say
08:40 < SMP> ok, cu
08:40 < SMP> and have fun..
08:40 < odd_amrimp> I'll try to track down those fellows to see if we can toss some hardware for kicks there way
08:40 < odd_amrimp> always having fun when I'm writing code,
08:40 < odd_amrimp> and been doing a lot of that lately,
08:40 < odd_amrimp> so I'm happy about it :)
