12:38 < [anders]> okay, have had to go through and order some things for the box at home and the laptop.. :-/
12:40 < [anders]> the powercut yesterday seems to have screwed up the network card in the PC so it doesn't send or receive any IP traffic.. on an ARP level it appears to be working and the Ethernet side of it works as mii-tool tells me it negotiated with the 8-port switch alright..
12:41 < [anders]> and I also ordered a new HDD for the laptop and a USB2 enclosure for the old disk so I can slurp things of the old disk.. Which will be handy.. Later I can always use that disk for backups.. :)
12:47 < [anders]> not a bad price for the USB2 disk enclosure.. £30+VAT.. so I guess around ¤50 or so.. Good price I thought..

13:36 < armijn> praenti: what kind of system?
13:37 < praenti> armijn: an own build 1.5.17. but i think i've a broken glibc
13:37 < armijn> which architecture?
13:37 < praenti> ia32 athlon
13:38 < praenti> on huebis box there are no problems
14:01 < [anders]> meep.. I have to give 1.5.19 a spin once I get everything going again on my home box..
14:06 < [anders]> might even update the cpu to something better in a while as well..
14:06 < [anders]> the XP2400+ does look rather tempting.. I just have to be careful of overheating.. :-(

14:29 < [anders]> mmmm... getting a 6 or 12 month extension here at IBM.. (Hopefully 12 months).. Which is nice.. :)
14:30 < [anders]> That means though I will still have as little time as ever to hack on Rock.. :-/
14:31 < thalerim> huebi: about the jorunaling filesystems issue some days ago (or so): xfs, jfs, reiserfs - and probably every other than ext3 too - are _not_ able to recover a file in that was written and suddenly the power goes out (== crash), this file is *lost* then. This is because the used file operations aren't atomic or so. Just FYI.
14:32 < [anders]> thalerim: I thought ext3 was capable of that.
14:33 < thalerim> it is indeed
14:33 < [anders]> thalerim: but if you enable that function, it will be incredibly slow..
14:34 < thalerim> actually it's the default option
14:34 < armijn> hmm
14:34 < [anders]> thalerim: not to mention that if you use (e)ide backend storage your journaling doesn't guarantee file integrity anyway..
14:34 < thalerim> [anders]: apply the HTree patch and see how ext3 burns all other filesystems away :-)
14:34 < thalerim> BTW. ReiserFS v4 will have atomic file-operations
14:35 < [anders]> thalerim: HTree patch? how about you put that in the 1.5.19 tree in the misc dir or something? :) So I get the patch when I next co the cvs tree.. ;-)
14:35 < thalerim> in spite of this won't decrease the speed
14:35 < [anders]> RFS v4 will have all sorts of goodies.. like pluggable crypto modules..
14:36 < thalerim> [anders]: there was an HTree patch for an very early 2.4.x, now there're only recent patches for 2.5.x
14:36 < [anders]> I was under the impression that ext3 only logged metadata in the journal per default.
14:37 < [anders]> (much like JFS and XFS does things..)
14:37 < thalerim> [anders]: i'll stay at ext3 though. HTree makes it really fast, and i like the compatibility and the additional attributes
14:37 * [anders] been running RFS since 2.4.0-pre days and it hasn't eaten my box yet.. (touch wood)
14:38 < [anders]> I even used RFS on SuSE 6.[1-3] and it worked fine for me then..
14:39 * praenti wants UFS it has not journaling but soft-updates
14:39 < praenti> yesterday i've read an article in IX
14:40 < thalerim> [anders]: rfs4 will go in 2.4.21-pre1
14:41 < thalerim> err
14:41 < thalerim> first steps to it
14:41 < thalerim> or so
14:41 < [anders]> thalerim: cool. I will have to keep an eye open for that..
14:41 < [anders]> I'm running 2.4.19-ac3 at the moment.. Will hold off on the 2.4.20-pre things until close to release..

15:29 < thalerim> armijn: it's the same word as in english???

15:32 < thalerim> ack
15:32 < armijn> and we still know how to swear in german :)
15:32 < thalerim> but 400 years... 1600... don't think it was a own language then already

15:33 < armijn> republic
15:34 < armijn> or well...actually...
15:34 < armijn> not
15:34 < thalerim> i mean was it a own country at all?
15:34 < armijn> some people think it was a spanish colony
15:34 < armijn> but it's not

15:34 < armijn> well, the king of spain was also lord of large parts of what is now .nl and .be

15:35 < armijn> had nothing to do with spain
15:36 < armijn> it was just that the spanish king also happened to be lord of large parts of .nl and .be
15:36 < thalerim> yes, that we express with belonging to a Hoheitsgebiet

17:16 < esden> that is also a choice ...
17:19 < foze> can some1 of u geeks and nerds say me how to deslect additional packages in 1.7-DEV, iam tooo stupid to understand this...btw where can i read smoething about this........
17:21 < esden> there is a place in ./scripts/Config menu .. where you can deselect, disable or enable packages ... using a regex
17:21 < d3mian> hi all
17:21 < foze> but how ?
17:22 < foze> i know where in the COnfig menu but i dunno how to delesct say mozilla
17:22 < foze> package
17:22 < esden> - Additional Package Selection
17:22 < esden> [*] Custom package selection
17:22 < foze> yes
17:22 < esden> ---- Use "X <pattern>" to enable packages
17:23 < esden> ---- Use "O <pattern>" to disable packages
17:23 < esden> ---- Use "- <pattern>" to remove packages
17:23 < foze> yes :)
17:23 < esden> and then you can view the current list
17:23 < esden> with :
17:24 < esden> -->    Show the current package lis
17:24 < esden> and add new patterns using:
17:24 < esden> | 001: <new line>
17:24 < esden> very ease
17:24 < esden> y
17:25 < esden> you write: - bash
17:25 < esden> and in this way you deselect bash packet
17:25 < foze> hmm
17:25 < esden> or : O gkrellm
17:25 < foze> i try it
17:25 < esden> to disable automatic selection of a packet
17:25 < foze> but i always get Syntax error in rule set
17:25 < esden> hmm ...
17:26 < foze> snapshot from yesterday
17:28 < esden> it works for me ... I have the snap from today
17:28 < foze> k i try to update it

18:07 < esden> but when you run after it Config your changes in this file will be lost
