00:54 < rekcah> not so new, see www.rocklinux.org to get more info
01:10 < rekcah> is there something more secure and better than nis/yp for managing net accounts ?
01:18 < tsa> openldap might do, but i'd still prefer nis ..
01:18 < rekcah> why ?
01:19 < rekcah> lots of user at this uni have lame passwords, and u could guess 200 of them in a couple of hours, when using nis. btw.. what is different between ldap and nis ?
01:19 -!- rekcah is now known as demian
01:20 < tsa> i've seen and used openldap for user accounts on several linux distros and it never was really stable..
01:20 < demian> what da u mean with stable ?
01:20 < demian> in which sense it isnt stable i mean
01:21 < tsa> slapd crashing, replication not working, ..
01:21 < tsa> unusable db files after crash from which data could not be recovered..
01:22 < demian> ah
01:23 < demian> anyways ill try it, and i will see. thanx :)

09:27 < esden> hi all
09:27 < blindcoder> moin esden
09:27 < esden> I did it .. I managed it to get to munich ;-)
09:27 < esden> hi blindcoder
09:28 < esden> blindcoder: how did you like the "autobahn" ? ;-)
09:29 < esden> hmm ... blindcoder ? you died ?
09:29 < blindcoder> hmm
09:29 < blindcoder> one hour late
09:29 < blindcoder> still the first @work :D
09:30 < blindcoder> no, I'm currently trying to recycle^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hfind useful code in chat.pl :)
09:31 < esden> urgh
09:31 < esden> have fun
09:31 < esden> what do you need from chat.pl ?
09:32 < blindcoder> network-code
09:32 < blindcoder> the whole thing aroun $sel
09:32 < blindcoder> brb
09:32 < esden> .oO(chat.pl seems to be a reference code for all our perl projects ;-) )
09:33 < owl> moin
09:33 < esden> moin owl *hug*
09:34 * -> esden very happy that he got to munich ;-)
09:34 < owl> esden: ?
09:34 < owl> why happy about going to munich
09:35 < esden> owl: because I was not far from death ;-)
09:35 < esden> now I am happy to see you all alife ;-)
09:36 < owl> esden: pardon?!! *schocked*
09:36 < esden> owl: what do you not understand in "I am happy to be alife" ?
09:36 < blindcoder> re
09:37 < owl> i don#t understand why "not far from death"
09:37 < owl> or better: why?
09:37 < blindcoder> owl: every time you get into a car you are in that state
09:37 < blindcoder> even more so during rush hours on the A9
09:38 < esden> and even more during such weather ;-)
09:39 < blindcoder> yes...
09:40 < owl> urgs
09:42 < blindcoder> hmm... strange...
09:43 < blindcoder> esden: any idea how chat.pl handles data > 1024 Bytes?
09:43 -!- tomik [~tomik@bremaiva.worldonline.cz] has quit (Remote closed the connection)
09:44 < blindcoder> *orgs*
09:44 < blindcoder> 4get it...
09:44 < blindcoder> me bein stupid again
09:44 < esden> blindcoder: ???
09:45 < esden> blindcoder: have you read the mail from fake on rlml ?!?
09:46 < esden> argh I once more forgot to start the ssh daemon on my machine at home >_<
09:46 < esden> GRRRRRRR
09:47 < esden> I need to finally alter init scripts at home >_<
09:49 < blindcoder> hehe
09:49 < blindcoder> the one regarding MIPS?
09:51 < esden> YES ! *jumparound*
09:51 < esden> that is a _very_ good message for rock !
09:51 < blindcoder> hehe :)
09:52 * -> esden answered already
09:52 < blindcoder> yes I saw it
09:52 < esden> I think for such good work he should be lauded
09:54 < blindcoder> well it's good that it's there but I think it's going to be used about as much as the LPP will
09:56 < esden> L
09:56 < esden> LPP will be used more then you think
09:57 < esden> and the mips port is a very good proof that rock is a portability master
09:57 < esden> and it will be used sooner or later
09:57 < esden> as a basis for mips distributions that you can run on your cobalt servers and palmtops
09:58 < blindcoder> I'm currently doing a test-build of a very clumsy ROCK-LPP implementation just to see if I got the kernel params et al right
09:58 < esden> do not see everything so negative ...
09:58 < blindcoder> I don't see _everything_ negative, y'know
09:58 < blindcoder> Getting my "CD-Wechsler" for my car on the 24th isa very positive thing :D
10:00 < esden> hmm ... I can imagine that you have been enthusiasted by the CDchanger of matze ... am I right?
10:01 < esden> how can I concat ps files ?
10:01 < esden> is there a program to make from several ps files one file ?
10:01 < blindcoder> esden not really, but the songs on radio are getting me depressed so I needed a change
10:02 < blindcoder> hmm... dunno... never messed around with them
10:02 < esden> grr
10:02 < blindcoder> and since they had no cd-Player there but only a changer I took it for 350
10:03 < esden> aha ... ok
10:04 -!- Lorini_ is now known as LoriAW
10:04 < blindcoder> well, 290 + work

10:15 < blindcoder> hmm... who was it that said "If you need more than three levels of indention, you're screwed anyways?"
10:23 < kasc> sounds like someone who never had latin at school...
10:23 < kasc> hiyas, btw

10:24 < blindcoder> hi kasc
10:24 < blindcoder> latin???
10:24 < esden> latin sux anyway ;-)
10:24 < blindcoder> WEE
10:24 < kasc> esden: have you ever read tacitus?
10:24 * blindcoder can reproduce the bchat-bug! :)
10:25 < esden> blindcoder: o_O
10:25 < esden> blindcoder: another one ?
10:25 < blindcoder> esden: the one with the Socket
10:25 < esden> blindcoder: cool !
10:25 < esden> kasc: nope
10:25 < blindcoder> esden: it's $cl->peerhost() that causes the error
10:25 < owl> *argh*
10:25 < esden> kasc: should I ?
10:25 < blindcoder> esden: we use it on "Connection closed to ".$cl->peerhost()
10:25 < esden> blindcoder: that was clear that is this
10:26 < esden> but which one ... ahh ok
10:26 < kasc> if you want to decode the meaning of his sentences, you will need far more than 3 levels of indention
10:26 < blindcoder> esden: but there the socket IS already closed, so it SIGINTs
10:26 < esden> blindcoder: uncomment the debug line
10:26 < blindcoder> I will
10:29 < esden> blindcoder: in lkml they hack around fb_logo ;-) that may interest you
10:29 < blindcoder> *urks* that means that LPP will have to undergo a major rewrite in 2.4.21, doesn't it?
10:30 < esden> seems so ...
10:30 < esden> blindcoder: do you want the thread ?
10:30 < blindcoder> >_<
10:30 < blindcoder> yes, please
10:34 -!- chrisime [~chrisime@p5080245A.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] has quit (Read error: 60 (Operation timed out))
10:35 < esden> blindcoder: https://www.esden.net/rocklinux/logo
10:35 < esden> but I think that there be more ... so the best you could do is to subscribe yourself
10:35 < esden> ;-)
10:35 < esden> to both lkml and fbdevel
10:35 < blindcoder> brb
10:39 < blindcoder> nah
10:39 < blindcoder> no time to read them
10:44 < esden> bleh ... :P
10:45 < blindcoder> I have barely time to sort through my Animes, much less read them
10:46 < blindcoder> But I like it that way :)
10:48 < esden> so you do not think about dumb things because you have no time for it ...
10:48 < esden> do I understand you right ?
10:49 < blindcoder> hmm... yes, you could put it that way
10:49 < blindcoder> although I wouldn't use "dumb"
10:52 < esden> how would you call it then ?
10:52 < blindcoder> less important
10:57 < esden> aaha

11:04 < blindcoder> it installed just fine :)
11:04 < esden> good ... puhh
11:07 < blindcoder> *ARGH*
11:07 < blindcoder> I forgot half of my work again >_<
11:08 < esden> o_O
11:08 < blindcoder> I had to wriite some script
11:08 < blindcoder> these scripts create/delete server settings
11:09 < blindcoder> like DB4Web, Tomcat and MySQL
11:09 < blindcoder> but I forget the ability to actually CHANGE something
11:11 < esden> ups
11:14 < blindcoder> yes...
11:14 < blindcoder> and doing a del / add combination isn't satisfactory

15:31 < blindcoder> md5_base64(md5_binary(md5(givenName.surName.(money_Paid*year_of_completion).companyName.string_i_chose)));

17:50 < bemol> exim, sendmail, qmail, postfix, etc are all over the top for the simple task i want to achieve
17:50 < bemol> i have a box which is going to be a dns server running only bind and ssh. i installed tripwire and want it to send an email notification to bemol@mydoamin.com. At the moment i am testing this, i have a box called mail-server.mydomain.com and a another called dns-server.mydomain.com on a LOCAL connection. i can send mail from the dns server to the mailserver using telnet but i can not send mail using the mail command(which comes with mailx
17:51 < bemol> but question is how can tripwire send an email notification to bemol@mydomain.com? tripwire is on the dns server. i do NOT want a mail server running on the dns server!

18:58 < tfing> not much
18:58 < rekcah> when i try to run my cvs with a cmd like rock 1.5's repos, it ask for the /home/user directory
18:58 < tfing> cvs and sshd
18:58 < rekcah> so, should a system account be created ?
18:58 < tfing> yep
18:58 < tfing> hmm
18:59 < rekcah> ic, and i suppose cvs modules and thigs are put in the user's home dir ?
18:59 < tfing> nope
18:59 < rekcah> then ?
18:59 < tfing> they go in the specified cvsdir
18:59 < rekcah> and where does one set it ?
18:59 < tfing> anoncvs@anoncvs.rocklinux.de:/cvs <- in /cvs in this example
18:59 < rekcah> cvsdir
19:00 < rekcah> umm, is that /cvs in the system / (root)
19:01 < tfing> i think so
19:01 < rekcah> and for this dir i should run cvs /cvs init too ?
19:02 < tfing> yes
19:02 < tfing> just like a cvs pserver repository
19:03 < rekcah> ah cool
19:03 < rekcah> thanx
19:03 < rekcah> :)
19:03 < rekcah> so.. anoncvs user in rock's cvs server doesnt have a passwd ?

20:47 < tfing> there's no autokick on the word gentoo ? :)
20:48 < ScareCrow_> is configuration comparable with redhat? debian? ... or does it have it's own config structures...
20:48 < ScareCrow_> with this i mean the structure of "/etc"
20:48 < tfing> it's a classic /etc
20:49 < rekcah> ScareCrow_: it is source based too. but it allows u to use cross build, and some other advanced functions. there is doc about rock available in www.rocklinux.org
20:49 < tfing> just a few conf files in /etc/conf
20:49 < tfing> rock is bash-based / gentoo is python-based
20:50 < tfing> there's no dependency management in rock
20:51 < tfing> among the fun stuff, you can do a cluster build of rock
20:51 < owl> hi ScareCrow_

23:01 < tsa> hi rekcah
23:02 < rekcah> does the ROCK_FL_WRAPPER works fine ?
23:02 < rekcah> when loaded from LD_PRELOAD
23:02 < tsa> i think so...i don't remember having experienced any problems with it.
23:03 * rekcah willl try to understand it..
23:04 < rekcah> how can i make a simple copy a file to a other one, in C? using read and write only ?
23:04 < tsa> i didn't take a closer look at it, but basically it does nothing but intercept some file-modifying calls..
23:05 < rekcah> aha. yes, like a listener
23:06 < rekcah> fl_wrapper.c fl_wrparse.c
23:06 < rekcah> what is the function of each one of those .c ?
23:08 < rekcah> fl_wrapper.c -> the library as i see

23:10 < rekcah> how does it really works ? listen for system calls for writing in files ? like O_WRONLY and O_RD_WR ? like a strace -e=write ?
23:11 < tsa> probably.
23:12 < tsa> ..same for directories and {sym,hard}links..
23:12 * Mike1 leaving now
23:12 < Mike1> see you all tomorrow
23:12 < rekcah> cya Mike1
23:13 < tsa> cu Mike1
23:13 < rekcah> umm.
23:13 < rekcah> void handle_file_access_before(const char *, const char *, struct status_t *);
23:14 < rekcah> void handle_file_access_after(const char *, const char *, struct status_t *);
23:14 < rekcah> compare access to files two times
23:18 < rekcah> umm, wrapper logs entries from fopen, open, creat, creat64, mkdir, mknod, link, symlink, rename, utime(s)
23:19 < rekcah> is the rock 1.5 fl_wrapper the same than 1.7's ?
23:19 < tsa> don't know, but i think so
23:20 < rekcah> it doesnt seems to be so complex, ill learn a bit more about those dynamc libraries. (me downloading doc mentioned in fl_wrapper.c)
23:22 < rekcah> a question before go.. what is linuxrc file in the / root of the install cd ?
23:39 < tsa> dunno
23:40 < Be-El> it's the program that is started after boot up (instead of /sbin/init)
