19:30 < BoS> nice
19:30 < BoS> .htacces - stupid?
19:30 < netrunner> yes.
19:31 < BoS> whats up whit the appache file
19:32 < puzzled> rxr: the rs6kboot.iso image boots like a charm. both install and install-novideo don't work with my GX3000 gfx card (messed up screen) so I'll remove it and install through a serial cable and minicom. Any install options I need to specify so install knows I use a terminal to install?
19:33 < netrunner> it slows. but my specific problem is that it gets not evaluated. but never mind, I moved the dir away.

19:37 < Lorini> hi MadTux
19:37 < owl> and - slack was nice, till i updated it...
19:37 < MadTux> hello Lorini.

19:47 < puzzled> rxr: no auto, need to hit F8 and do boot cdrom:,\install.bin
19:52 < fake> owl: ...
19:52 < rxr> ok - does the console= thing above helps?
19:52 < fake> owl: what the hell did you mess up your system again with? ;)

21:36 < fake> damn
21:36 < fake> i don't get it
21:37 < fake> if in configure.in they check for header files like
21:37 < fake> #include <includefile.h>
21:37 < fake> extern int <functionfortest>(completelywrongargumentlist)
21:37 < fake> and the compile returns an ERROR
21:38 < fake> that could be: includefile: previous declaration of `functionfortest`
21:38 < fake> then WHY the F*** does configure say it's not OK?
21:38 < fake> it can't work with just an function(int)
21:39 < fake> this is so damn stupid

21:40 < jsaw> on what?
21:40 < fake> my above bashing ;)
21:41 < jsaw> ah...wait
21:41 < fake> the example is llseek vs. lseek64
21:43 < jsaw> which pkg?
21:43 < hannes_> rehi
21:44 < jsaw> hi hannes_
21:44 < hannes_> fakewhat's my v100 doing?
21:44 < fake> hannes_: waiting for a sparc64 bootcd crossbuild ;)
21:45 < hannes_> doing my soekris build right now
21:45 < fake> jsaw: e2fsprogs (see sm, patch id 2004062613131930948)
21:45 < fake> jsaw: on dietlibc enabled build
21:46 < fake> .oO( no idea why we don't build e2fsprogs with dietlibc by default, however, new in 1.35 is a --with-diet-libc switch
21:46 < fake> )
21:47 < jsaw> see e.g. lseek64 test:
21:47 < jsaw> in bracket: [extern int lseek64(int);],
21:48 < hannes_> wenn ich/away
21:48 < fake> j0
21:48 < hannes_> sry..
21:48 < jsaw> the next bracket (iirc) is the result if it works,
21:48 < jsaw> and there, no is given.
21:48 < fake> jsaw: the question is: why does it work in the same way with llseek, but not with lseek64?
21:49 < jsaw> probably it is defined strangely in the dietlibc unistd.h, lemma see...
21:51 < daja77> 2re
21:52 < hannes_> hi daja77
21:52 < jsaw> fake: in glibc/unistd.h, lseek64 is surrounded by "#ifdef __USE_LARGEFILE64"
21:53 < jsaw> fake: while dietlibc, it is "#if_n_def __NO_STAT64"
21:54 < jsaw> *strange*
21:54 < fake> jsaw: but it doesn't hurt if __USE... is definded for dietlibc!
21:55 < fake> jsaw: i'll see wether __NO_STAT64 is definde
21:55 < jsaw> jsaw: this ckeck is only for testing if this llseek or lseek64 is defined in unistd.h or not. nothing else.
21:56 < fake> fake: are you listening?
21:56 -!- netrunner [~andreas@pD9E8C629.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] has joined #rocklinux

21:57 < fake> ARGH
21:57 < fake> now it works! what did i do?
21:57 < daja77> used a spell
21:57 < jsaw> .oO(?)
21:58 * fake cries
22:00 < fake> it only fails if i define __USE_LARGEFILE64
22:01 < jsaw> .oO(and that's correct, so?)
22:01 < jsaw> ah
22:01 < fake> #define _LARGEFILE64_SOURCE
22:01 < fake> then it breaks
22:02 < fake> without that, it works
22:02 < jsaw> stupid me, the test should define USE_LARG...
22:02 < fake> ... grepping dietlibc includes ...
22:02 < fake> nothing.
22:03 < fake> ha!
22:03 < fake> got it.
22:04 < fake> of course i have to compile the test case with sparc64-unknown-linux-gnu-gcc
22:04 < fake> which configure doesn't seem to do...
22:08 -!- netrunne1 [~andreas@pD9E8CF5C.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] has quit [Read error: 110 (Connection timed out)]
22:09 < fake> hm
22:11 < fake> this is getting on my nerves
22:11 < fake> i still don't get it
22:11 -!- Lorini [~Andrea@stdw-wh-vip63.studentenwerk-bielefeld.de] has quit ["scheißtag"]
22:12 < fake> in my eyes, the test should say 'yes there is a definition for this function' if the test compiel _fails_ !
22:14 < jsaw> well, yep, would be much more clear
22:15 * fake patch-inverting yes and no and setting autogen=1
22:21 < fake> hrmpf
22:21 < fake> if i do that, the header results are correct
22:21 < fake> but they also check for lseek64 defined in libc
22:21 < fake> that fails, too
22:21 < rxr> jsaw: regarding dietlibc: please do not patch in so many options most people will neer touch
22:21 < fake> but if i cut'n'paste the code from config.log, it works.
22:22 < rxr> use sane default - and if s.th. different is needed for custom applicatoins they can tweak it
22:22 < jsaw> rxr: you can't tweak it that easily.
22:22 < jsaw> rxr: it's not a configure option you simply pass.
22:23 < rxr> either CC_WRAPPER_... -DFEATURE_XYZ might be sufficient - or patch it
22:23 < rxr> it is far too low lever to wire them all out as config options ...
22:23 < jsaw> rxr: nope, doesn't work
22:23 < jsaw> these options are not passed via command line
22:24 < jsaw> they are hard wired in this header file
22:24 < jsaw> (which is stuipd, ok..)
22:24 < jsaw> for now, I make two patches,
22:24 < rxr> but you can overwrite with -D bla bla
22:27 < jsaw> ?
22:27 < jsaw> how?
22:28 < rxr> they are #define's ?
22:28 < rxr> then just -DFEATURE_XYZ=myvalue
22:28 < jsaw> and guess what the compiler says about multiple defines...
22:28 * fake going havoc
22:29 < rxr> [-Dmacro[=defn]...]
22:29 < jsaw> or what it says if u undefine first and the define...
22:29 < jsaw> I know the -D stuff, but it really doesn't matter if you afterwards use #define unconditionally in the header file
22:30 < jsaw> try this:
22:30 < jsaw> #define TEST
22:30 < jsaw> int main() {
22:30 < jsaw> #ifdef TEST
22:30 < jsaw>     printf("HELLO\n");
22:30 < jsaw> #endif
22:30 < jsaw> }
22:30 < jsaw> compile it with gcc -DTEST test.c, gcc test.c or with gcc -UTEST test.c
22:30 < jsaw> always the same result!
22:31 < rxr> hm - ok
22:31 < jsaw> anyway, I split that patch now...
22:31 < rxr> but nevertheless I find those too ugly - if one wants to tweak then for some special embdedded s.th. just drop the patch in the target dir ...
22:32 < rxr> I think 95% of those options are "never touched"
22:33 < jsaw> right. but probably because nobody looks into the README (how to compile) and even less ever dared to look into this header file... :)
22:33 < fake> *sigh*
22:35 < fake> why does a -static ld fail in te build, but work perfectly in debug.sh?
22:35 < jsaw> because too many symbols were removed?
22:36 < rxr> no idea
22:36 < fake> it says about all symbols: undefinded reference to...
22:36 < jsaw> hmm, really looks like wrong stripping mode
22:36 < fake> pretty long list ;)
22:36 < fake> make STRIP=/bin/true ?
22:37 < fake> but why do the already-stripped .o files work with only ld in the debug.sh ?
22:38 < jsaw> now I bail out on this...
22:38 < fake> so do i
22:40 < fake> ha!
22:41 < fake> the call to LD is not in the command wrapper!
22:42 < rxr> fake: btw. do you build 64bit user-space?
22:42 < fake> rxr: yes
22:42 < fake> rxr: thus the AR, RANLIB and STRIP patches
22:43 < fake> why is a call to ld in debug.sh in the command-wrapper, but not in the build?
22:46 < fake> hm
22:47 < fake> i called gcc in debug.sh
22:47 < fake> not ld
22:47 < fake> with ld it doesn't work
22:47 < fake> with gcc it does
22:48 < fake> -lc ...
22:48 < fake> missing

22:57 < fake> cya jsaw
22:58 < fake> ...
22:58 < fake> in e2fsprogs.conf: LD=$CC
22:58 < fake> now it works.

23:16 < rxr> ...
