This is not the already known qemu quirk, but a bug new to the X11R7
release... In X11R6.9 it worked for me to use X -configure for creating an
xorg.conf.new file in /root. (The qemu quirk was that the screen stayed black
when doing this, but the xorg.conf.new file was still created and usable
after a reboot of qemu.) In X11R7.1 this does not work, neither on a real
machine, nor in qemu; no xorg.conf.new file is created... the only
configuration program that still works is (the text-based) xorgconfig. :(

Have you tried
https://www.rocklinux.net/submaster/index.websplb?mode=patch&uid=2006073117561123840 ?
It should apply all config bits and pieces from the xorg package to the xorg
repository.

Some packages I wouldn't mind removing:
kdeartwork (18M)
kdegames (9.6M)
xorg-docs (5.4M)

The first issue is already solved afaics, please have a look at the changed
log file location; the prefix in package/xorg/xorg_config.sh is probably
wrong.
