[rock-devel] Installation report

Hi list.

I just installed th's latest Crystal from

	http://iso.rocklinux.de/rock-ftp/unofficial/teha/th20060529/

Here's my report about cosmetic, minor and *OUCH* problems. Take a seat.

It starts at the ISOLINUX boot menu with a cosmetic thing:
Pressing <Enter> gives you automatic booting. If you want to have the
interactive Stage 1 you must enter "ramdisk". ramdisk? I don't think
it's called "ramdisk Linux". This should be either ROCK or Crystal!

The next problem I would categorise as *OUCH*. During the boot sequence into
Stage 1 I get a _ton_ of messages like this:

FATAL: Could not open '/lib/modules/2.6.16.18-rock/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia/nvidiafb.ko': No such file or directory

During Stage 1 another *OUCH* problem:
	8. Validate a CD/DVD against its embedded checksum
		BROKEN!
/bin/checkisomd5: error while loading shared libraries: libpopt.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
And another:
	Configure network interfaces
INPUT VALIDATION! Entering '192.168.1.1' without /24 will proceed, but not work!

One cosmetic problem:

What do you want to do [0-7] (default=0)?
		The options go from 0-8!

And another:

Load second stage from local CD or floppy
The menu should only show drives actually containing a ROCK CD!

Cosmetic problem in Stage 2:
	G.A.S.
In menu "Install selected packages - Alter package selection" don't say /mnt/target /mnt/target/boot. Say / and /boot

*OUCH* in Stage 2:

	After Keyboard layout
The selected layout is not loaded automatically. Why?

And another:
	umount during shutdown not clean
		umount: tmpfs busy
		can't create lock file /etc/mtab~1022: read-only filesystem

Also, CD should be ejected before reboot.

Oh, and before reboot, X -configure fails to locate the mouse!

Minor problem post-installation:

	default /etc/network/config
		typo:
		 V
### interface eth0 is configured using a static IP
# interface eth1
	       ^

Also, the modules snd-seq-oss and snd-pcm-oss are not loaded.
The sound is set to mute, too. So no sound after booting.

	Initrd:
		/lib/udev/modalias_ieee1394 missing
	udev:
/etc/udev/rules/permissions.rules line 8 is broken. CD-Roms will be group "disk"

That's what I found so far. The installation is not even 2 hours old.

Greetings,
	Benjamin
