are you sure your current running kernel is a 64bit kernel? if so, it
should be possible to chroot into a 64-bit environment. There is a
kernel option to build a kernel supporting both 64 and 32 bit userlands.

if this is already the case, please strace the (manual) chroot call and
mail the output...
