ROCK Linux 2.0.3
On 23.11.2004 Tobias Hintze released ROCK Linux 2.0.3, the third release
of the Stable tree.
This is the first Stable release done by Tobias who took over
maintenance of the tree after Rene Rebe left ROCK Linux early August.
Tobias' release mail can be found here:

Distribution via BitTorrent
With the release of ROCK Linux 2.0.3 there was a first try at the
distribution of precompiled ROCK CDs using BitTorrent.
This was only used by a few (in numbers: 2) people which might have been
due to the lack of initial seeders (of which there was only one).
If you have bandwidth to spare for the next release, please contact
Benjamin Schieder <blindcoder@scavenger.homeip.net>.
ROCK at the 21C3
Project registration for the Hackcenter at the 21st Chaos Communication
Congress opened this month and Michael Obster registered a place for
ROCK there.
If you ever wanted to meet the people working behind ROCK, need some
help with your ROCK system or want to invite them for lunch, here's your
chance. Further information will pop up on the mailinglist such as
location in the Hackcenter, talks the ROCK people will hold and other
pieces.
For a list of people who will attend, here's the list:

Crystal Test Suite
Early November Clifford added the file
Documentation/Developers/CRYSTAL-TESTS
which describes the tests a Crystal release has to pass in order to be
considered releasable. It covers simple IDE installation using only the
given defaults as well as complex partitioning on SCSI discs.
Every package will additionally be able to ship its own sanity check for
Crystal.
You can have a look at the file here:

Crystal media player selection
The discussion about which Multimedia Player should be used is still
going on. At the moment the whole range from mplayer, xine, kaffeine,
kmplayer and vlc are still being considered. Because personal favorites
play quite a role in this discussion, a decision satisfying everyone is
not expected.
x86_64 Patches
Bernhard Schrenk has invested work in getting ROCK up and running on
x86_64 architecture with reasonable success. Several patches found their
way through SubMaster and are now online for public consumption in the
ROCK 2.1 tree.
HowTo section opened
Due to often repeating questions about several complex things in and
around ROCK the HowTo section was opened with the first HowTo being
"Submit Patches." More will follow as necessity arrives.
