Gaming with ROCK Linux

Games that ROCK (gaming with ROCK Linux)

I was told most people think of ROCK Linux as a command-line only

distribution and gaming with ROCK would if at all look like this:

tetris-bsd: a classical game

Many fellow people that use linux on a regular basis keep some

DOS/Windoze box somewhere for games, mainly because they dont know

any good linux games. What about you? Do you know any? Are you one

of those people that keep an terribly outdated OS just for gaming?

Then this Article might change your mind ;-)

What we already have

We already have quite a good variety of games covering most genres.

We also ship some quite famous games like Flight-Gear, Freeciv, frozen-bubble,

nethack, or XBlast-TNT just to name a few. Here is a chart on how

the games already included with ROCK Linux (05-22-03) are distributed

among common gaming categories:

arcade: (12) IIIII IIIII II

board: (10) IIIII IIIII

bundle: (3) III

card: (1) I

puzzle: (8) IIIII III

racing: (3) III

rpg: (3) III

simulation: (4) IIII

strategy: (7) IIIII II

Some impressions on some of the games already packaged:

freedroid, a free Paradroid clone

lbreakout2, a free breakout clone

foobillard, here showing a snooker game

frozen-bubble, a great puzzle game

gnubg, a powerful backgammon engine

powermanga, a great shooter. The red blue and green thing at the right

border is an stage boss, almost everything else is from my weapons ;)

xskat, a skat card game implementation

simutrans: liked Transport Tycoon by MicroProse? Then you will definitely

love this one!

pingus: a Lemmings clone with penguins

Flightgear: the ultimative flight simulator

What we are looking for

As you can see from the chart above we are terribly lacking rpg and racing

games. If you have a hint or a wish what great linux game you would like

to see included, just contact me and i'll try to package it.

gltron: head to head racing with 3 opponents (computer or human)

A peek into my personal ToDo

These games are generally working with rock but are either lacking being

packaged or need to become stable/playable.

Methane Brothers: A clanlib game like bubble bobble

AdontHell: a rpg

Egoboo: roughly a rpg consisting mainly of fighting

Epier: a space trading game

Roborally: lots of fun battling using programmed robots

Vegastrike: the ultimative space simulation
